Response Time for Permissions Requests
Standard response time for a request is three weeks; however your request may take more or less time depending on the completeness of the information provided and the current volume of requests.
When to Request Permission to Use HK Materials
- If you would like to use Human Kinetics material in a promotional manner, (book covers or excerpts in a magazine or newspaper article, or on your Web site), you'll need to contact the Publicity Department at publicity@hkusa.com.
- For questions about translating products into other languages, please contact Crystal Niermann at crystaln@hkusa.com.
- If you intend to use Human Kinetics (HK) material for any other purpose, you must submit an online permissions request form. Questions about completing the form can be addressed to permissions@hkusa.com.
- If you intend to copy materials for use in a course packet or make multiple copies for other classroom use, contact the Academic Permissions Service of the Copyright Clearance Center, Inc, by calling 978-750-8400 or faxing 978-646-8600. Their mailing address is 222 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA 01923. You may also contact them through their Web site: www.copyright.com.
- Outside the US, contact your local subsidiary by clicking HERE.
Information for HK Authors
You need permission to use material you have written for Human Kinetics. We require that you inform us of your plans to use your material elsewhere. There is usually no problem in granting the request and the fee is generally waived. However, we may deny a request to use substantial portions of your HK work in a competing work for another publisher. Refer to your contract for details or contact HK's Permissions Associate at permissions@hkusa.com.
Additional Information
- To direct your request to the correct publisher, you should check on the copyright page or within the text for the original source of the material. The material you wish to use may be credited to a source other than HK. If so, you should apply to that source for permission, not to HK.
- If you submit a request to include an entire HK article or chapter in a publication by a different publisher, and we grant permission for the use, we may require that you also contact the author of the material for additional permission.
- Under no circumstances will we permit more than 10 percent of a book or 40 percent of a journal to be reproduced.
- You may be required to pay a permission fee.
